How To Develop Your Child’s Fine Motor Skills With Games And Educational Toys

educational toysParents should help their children develop their fine motor skills as they are going to be required to use them once they reach their school years.  Some of these skills are:  how to handle a pen or pencil, draw, paint or play a musical instrument. Fine motor skills allow children to become more independent, and although they are matured over time, there are plenty of things that parents can do to help their child in this process. In fact, if a child’s fine motor skills are underdeveloped or are not mature enough for his age, he may have trouble using a pair of scissors, painting with brushes, playing with dough and so on. Children’s Wooden Toys – Shades of Colour

Shades of Colour

Improve your child’s concept of colour and their ability to differentiate between different shades by letting them work on this rather unique puzzle.

The Shades of Colour puzzle brings in a range of different palettes that allow the child to see the subtle variations of shade between each colour.
The child then needs to find the corresponding peg and place it into the palette it matches exactly before being able to move on. The puzzle is fun and a great way to learn. It is also a great resource for kids in other areas of their lives as well — the palettes can be used as a reference when completing art work.

The palettes also provide immediate feedback and a visual reference for the child so that they know when they have gone wrong. The paint is non-toxic, but the pieces are fairly small so it is more suitable for children that are older than three years of age. However, these palettes can be used as reference materials for years to come by those kids that are artistically inclined.

Automoblox – Children’s Wooden Toys

Automoblox

Great, fun and taking playing with cars to a whole new level is the best way to describe Automoblox. These snazzy looking cars will provide kids with hours of playtime. The advantage? These solidly built cars — with most of the bodywork in wood — will last a lot longer than the cheap plastic cars on the market, and they have an educational component as well.

These cars hide quite a cool secret — the front of the car, the canopy and the tires can come off and these parts can be interchanged with other cars. Kids can spend hours building customized cars by interchanging the different parts. Alternatively, they can take all the cars apart and then set themselves the task of matching the right colours to the right cars.

The cars’ drivers and passengers themselves hold a secret. Take them out and you will see that each has a different geometric shape. Kids learn about geometric shapes because the passengers/drivers will only fit properly back into the right shaped depression. They will literally learn that you cannot fit a round peg into a square hole.

Aside from the educational value, the ruggedness and sturdy construction of these cars will win over even the toughest critic.

Shape Shifter

Children’s Wooden Toys – Shape Shifter

The Shape Shifter is based on a good, old-fashioned puzzle. These solid wooden blocks will provide hours of fun as they teach kids about geometric shapes and also improve their spatial reasoning abilities. The bottom row of blocks allows kids to shift and change them around so they can form the different shapes that they see in the top two rows.

The blocks on top can then be placed in the spaces created, giving kids instant feedback as to whether or not they got the shape right. The challenge comes in combining the blocks to properly form the shapes seen in the top rows. This is the best way to learn – by trial and error.

The blocks themselves are fairly plain so that there are few distractions from learning about the shapes, and there are no clues as to how to put the shapes together. Non-toxic and too big to swallow, these blocks also suit younger children.

The Shape Shifter also helps children to develop their imaginations as they do not just have to look at the shapes themselves, but also have to visualize what the negative mould of these shapes would be. Shape Shifter turns learning into a game that is really fun.
